PROJECT OVERVIEW

Partnering Organization

Delaware Technical Community College serves students across the state from four different campuses. Programs offered range from certificates to associate and bachelor degrees. The instructional design staff at the college support over 52 departments in the design and delivery of courses through the Blackboard Learning Management System.

Mentor at DTCC

The contact for this project is Dallas Hayes, Instructional Designer.

Identified Need

DTCC is currently undergoing a transition from the Blackboard LMS to Desire to Learn’s Brightspace LMS. Only a small number of courses have been migrated and delivered with this new LMS. Training materials and courses are being developed to educate students, staff, and faculty on the use of the new LMS. Brightspace offers many new and different features compared to Blackboard, on in particular is called the Learning Object Repository. Each of the 52 departments in the college will need to utilize this repository, which stores objects like quizzes, images, files, and presentations and allows for them to be used across the department. Both Instructional Designers and Faculty Chairpersons will need to be educated on the use of the feature in order to take full advantage of it. D2L does provide documentation on the use of the LOR but it currently lacks how the system would be used relevant to DTCC

Need Fulfillment

This project will create a training to be delivered through the Brightspace LMS that staff and faculty members will have access to. It will not only provide a comprehensive explanation of the LOR, but more importantly detail how the system will be used within DTCC. The overall outcome for this training is to provide a platform in which the LOR can be understood and used consistently across all departments and campuses.
